We have been making pesto for a good many years for some fantastic clients from our production kitchen in Galway, West Ireland and our pesto has graced many an Irish supermarket shelf and won several awards along the way.
In 2017 we were fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to take all our knowledge and passion for pesto and launch our own brand. We chose the name Pestle + Mortar as it’s true to our fundamental beliefs – back to the roots of simple processes, locking in flavours and nutrients early as a consequence.
Freshly prepared, with hand prepped basil, Pestle + Mortar’s green pesto is high in olive oil and basil and sweetened with mature Irish cheddar and Grana Padano cheeses. Our red pesto is also high in olive oil and made with top quality fresh red peppers and sundried tomatoes.
Our pestos were developed by our team led by Executive Chef Thomas Haughton. We’ve also been working with the multi-talented Jennifer Oppermann (@jenniferocooks) to develop recipes to show just how versatile this ancient sauce can be! So pestoliciously tasty, pesto enlivens every dish and makes for a delicious dip for sharing as well.
Pestle + Mortar’s red sundried tomato pesto has won a Bronze Award in 2018’s Blas na hEireann, The Irish Food Awards.
